JsVP_plusHarc_15May_02.nxs

Format: a file in NEXUS format containing the data used for the maximum parsimony analyses. Data were derived from James_data.txt.

Manuscripts are numbered as follows:

• x1: the text of ECM
• Harc: the back-translation of the Syriac Harclensis
• Other mss: first digit is 1 for papyrus, 2 for minuscule, 3 for majuscule; the next four digits are ms numbers as in ECM (padded with zeros in front); last digit is 1 for supplements and 0 otherwise. ('x' is added in front because NEXUS format does not allow manuscript names that consist only of numbers.)

In the MATRIX section, each row is coded information on readings in a single manuscript. Missing data are represented by '?'. Other symbols correspond to those used in ECM. Each column is a variant location, with the address given in char_address_list.txt.

char_address_list.txt

Format: tab-separated text.

• The first column is the number of the character (column in data matrix) in JsVP_plusHarc_15May_02.nxs
• The next three columns are the chapter, verse and word number (as in ECM) for the start of the reading
• The final three columns are the chapter, verse and word number (as in ECM) for the end of the reading.

James_data.txt

Format: tab-separated text.

• Exported from the database used in preparation of ECM
• The first column (hsnr) is the manuscript number
• The second column (labneu) is the coded reading
• Variants appear in the order given in char_address_list.txt.

Differences in coding between James_data.txt and the NEXUS file

Some symbols are different in the NEXUS file (the symbol for a reading in James_data.txt depends on the reading from which it was thought to be derived as well as its current state). The left hand column lists the symbol used in James_data.txt, and the right hand column the corresponding symbol in the NEXUS file (anything not listed is the same in both).
